Functional Neurology
Grounded in fundamental neuroscience principles and the latest scientific research, Functional Neurology applies these insights to enhance patient care. A Functional Neurologist conducts a thorough assessment to identify weaknesses in specific areas of the nervous system and develop targeted treatments to improve overall function. This approach, pioneered by Dr. Ted Carrick, who has been researching and teaching this model since the mid-1970s, emphasizes a comprehensive and effective method for optimizing nervous system performance.
Functional Medicine
The human body functions as an interconnected whole, with all organs, tissues, and systems working together synergistically. Our approach focuses on identifying the underlying causes of brain dysfunction and any associated health issues that may be impairing the brain’s ability to heal. This process involves a comprehensive examination, as well as diagnostic and laboratory testing, to uncover and address these root causes effectively.
Oxygen Therapy & Clinical Nutrition
The brain relies on oxygen and nutrient-rich blood to support energy, memory, and cognition. Optimal healing occurs when the body and brain receive adequate oxygen and nutrients. To facilitate this process, we incorporate Oxygen Therapy and provide coaching on "brain power foods" through nutritional supplementation. These approaches are crucial in supporting comprehensive recovery and enhancing overall brain function.
Acupuncture and Acupressure
Acupuncture serves as a valuable tool in promoting endorphin release, reducing inflammation, enhancing immune system response, increasing circulation, and alleviating pain and muscle spasms. This modality has proven especially effective in alleviating concussion symptoms, including dizziness and headaches.
TMJ, Head and Skull Therapy
Targeted work on the muscles and bones of the head and skull enhances circulation and accelerates healing. By relieving muscle tension and improving alignment in this region, we often observe a reduction in painful muscle spasms, headaches, and dizziness. Additionally, symptoms such as dizziness, headaches, tinnitus, and pain around the eyes can sometimes originate from the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). Since the TMJ can produce symptoms similar to those of a concussion or vestibular injury, it is crucial to assess and address this area as part of a comprehensive treatment plan.
Frequency Specific Microcurrent
This therapy has demonstrated a remarkable ability to significantly boost ATP production—often by up to 500%—which accelerates the body’s healing processes. It has proven exceptionally effective in treating symptoms associated with concussion and vestibular injuries. Documented improvements have been observed in symptoms such as dizziness, pain, and headaches, as well as enhancements in EEG results, IMPACT testing, and neuropsychological evaluations.
Ultrasound, Diathermy, Soft Tissue and Muscular Procedures
Muscle tension and trigger points can significantly contribute to concussion symptoms. To address this, we utilize a range of techniques including Trigger Point Therapy, Graston Technique, Myofascial Release, Ultrasound, heated stones, and Chinese Cupping. These methods are designed to alleviate tension and release restrictions in the muscles and structures of the upper back, neck, jaws, face, and head, thereby supporting overall recovery and symptom relief.
Neck and Head Alignment/Spinal Decompression/Chiropractic
Symptoms often diagnosed as concussions or vestibular injuries can sometimes be attributed to misalignments in the upper neck. Frequently, head injuries are accompanied by neck injuries, even if the patient does not experience neck pain. Proper alignment of the neck is crucial for managing dizziness, headaches, tinnitus, and other symptoms related to head injuries. Addressing neck alignment is essential for comprehensive evaluation and effective treatment of these conditions.
Functional Neurology
Functional Neurology has developed from basic neuroscience principles and an understanding of how the most recent scientific research can be applied to patient care. Through careful assessment, a Functional Neurologist can not only determine which areas of a person’s nervous system are weak, but also devise an appropriate treatment to improve the quality of how their nervous system functions.
